Messenger Kids by Facebook – What it is?
Messenger is an app which works as a chat platform for Facebook, which is known by everyone connected to digital media. Now to cover up each specific segment, Facebook introduces a separate platform app designed specifically for kids – “Messenger kids”.
Facebook promotes this app as “safe kids chat app”, which is all under control by there parents.
This app uses wifi to video call their parents and grandparents which do not requires sim at all. And obviously the text chat, emojis, and editing pictures.
Parental control allows parents to monitor chats of their kids, they can control adding of contacts by approvals, sleep mode feature etc. And all these functions are controlled from the default Facebook app of their parents. Kids can only chat with those people, those who get approval from their parents.
- Parents approve every contact so kids can chat in a safer, more controlled environment.
- Parents can remove any contact at any time
- Sleep mode to set times when their child cannot use the app.
- Messages can’t disappear or hidden in case parents would like to check in.
- There are no ads or in-app purchases, and the app is free to download.
Messenger Kids is already launched in Canada and in Peru in June 2018 and today Facebook launched it in Mexico, which works well just as in other countries.
It is a great initiative by Facebook to cover the gap between grandparents and their children helping communication with ease. In addition, kids will get some entertaining and fun stuff to do with gifs and stickers while video chat.
But it might have some negative impact too. For say is it alright to give your kid access to the social network in their years of developments and education? In today’s era, kids need smart devices just after they start speaking and learns to walk. And this app “Messenger kids” is going to push the bush in the wrong direction.
Though it’s your decision as a parent to allow your kids to use Messenger kids or any other digital screens, which is either going to be productive for your kid or just wasting their crucial time which they could invest in making their brains powerful.
